Here I was thinking that there was no way I could have my nails done because I wasn’t willing to suffer from the glue destroying my nails and then I start hearing that press-on nails were a thing again. It wasn’t until I saw a video from a YouTube influencer with the most fly nails and then learned that they were press-ons that I started looking into it more seriously.
I popped into a local drug store and got a press-on nail kit and I was wowed! It’s not like I never tried them before, but back in the day, they were sold with glue (which I didn’t want) or the double-sided adhesive was not adhesive enough. Fast forward to 2022 and there are some tips and tricks that have these babies lasting long and strong.

The same week I got the nails you see above, I took a deeper dive and went HAM on Amazon and got a nail kit which included a whole tray of nails, a nail stand, sticky tac, nail clippers and double-sided adhesive. I ordered an extra stand and nail polish (not realizing it was gel nail polish) and started planning my new nail design.
When everything arrived, I jumped right in and started sizing the nails to the length I wanted and clipping them. I filed them and set them on the stand ready to polish. I applied the gel nail polish and put the nails under my fan to dry, only to realize that gel nail polish requires a UV/LED light to cure (not dry) them. I headed back onto Amazon, ordered my UV/LED light which arrived the day after and the rest was history.
The featured image for this blog is my second attempt at a simple nail design concept and I must say I placed them much better the second time around.
My technique is to first put the double-sided adhesive on my nail, then put a little glue inside the fake nail and then place the nail over the adhesive and hold it in place for 20 seconds. The hold is so much more secure than the adhesive on its own and the adhesive protects my nails from the glue.
There’s something about having my nails done that makes me feel more like a lady. Do you agree? Let me know in the comments below.
If you’re interested in DIY press-on nails, below is a list of the items I ordered. I used my Amazon affiliate links which means I receive a commission when you shop!
- Nail kit
- Extra nail stand (the nail kit only comes with one)
- Gel nail polish
- UV/LED light
Lastly, here are two videos I followed that gave me some direction on how to properly apply and paint the nails. Enjoy!
