Adulting in My Business

As I reflect on the tumultuous year that was 2020, one thing becomes abundantly clear – it was a pivotal period of growth for my business. In this video, I shared my journey of navigating the challenges of adulting in my business, a process that unfolded organically but has transformed the way I approach entrepreneurship.

The Power of a Team

The realization hit me like a ton of bricks – I never want to go back to working alone again. The camaraderie and synergy with my team of associates have been game-changers. The shift from a solo endeavor to managing a team sparked a revelation: having help is irreplaceable. It’s the difference between running a business and managing a thriving agency.

As the agency expanded, so did the complexities. Each client, each project felt like a separate business. The workload became overwhelming, and that’s when the importance of delegation became evident. I emphasized the need for anyone in a similar position to seek help rather than attempting to navigate the intricacies alone.

Research, Grants, and Business Plans

With the team on board, my focus turned to ensuring I could compensate them adequately. This led me down the path of researching grants and loans. The process, however, required more than just a desire for financial support. I found myself rewriting my business plan, a task I never anticipated revisiting. The journey into adulting in my business had begun.

Encountering a research roadblock, I turned to Time Etc., a platform providing virtual assistants. This decision proved instrumental in easing the burden of information overload. My assistant, Brittany, seamlessly handled the intricate research, reinforcing the importance of seeking assistance when needed.

SOPs and the Evolution of Processes

The next milestone in my business evolution was creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This seemingly daunting task became a necessity with a growing team of 14 associates. The realization that streamlined processes were crucial for effective delegation marked another step in my journey of adulting in business.

Hiring a Bookkeeper and Beyond

Hiring a bookkeeper had been a consideration, but skepticism held me back. However, as the complexities of my business increased, so did the realization that some tasks are better left to professionals. The first bookkeeper meeting was a revelation – a moment that signified my business was stepping into a new phase.

Embracing Change and the Unplanned Growth

The profound transformation in my business wasn’t premeditated; it unfolded naturally. The spirit of change, fueled by 15 years of experience, led me to explore new avenues. The team expanded, encompassing roles I hadn’t envisioned needing. From a research assistant to a bookkeeper, each addition was a testament to the business’s organic growth.

Facing Fears and Embracing Vulnerability

As I embraced change, I realized that comfort often stems from fear. Stepping out of my comfort zone, seeking help, and acknowledging the need for specialized skills marked a turning point. The fear of the unknown gave way to a flourishing team of professionals.

The Unplanned Blueprint

What started as an unplanned hiring spree morphed into a blueprint for a well-rounded team. Virtual assistants, project managers, bookkeepers – each addition played a vital role in the evolving structure of my business. The growth wasn’t meticulously planned, but it happened in response to the business’s evolving needs.

A Message to Fellow Entrepreneurs

To those hesitant about embracing change or seeking assistance, my journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of adulting in your business. Whether you plan it meticulously or let it unfold organically, the key is to recognize when it’s time to level up.

If you find yourself at a crossroads, unsure of the next step, consider the gift of assistance. Platforms like Time Etc. can connect you with skilled professionals who become integral parts of your journey.

In conclusion, my unplanned adulting journey has propelled my business to new heights, and I invite you to embark on your own transformation. Embrace change, seek help when needed, and watch your business flourish in ways you may not have imagined.

If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up, and remember, the journey of adulting in your business is a continuous process. Embrace it, and the rewards will undoubtedly follow.
