Today, I want to share a profound lesson that has been at the core of my entrepreneurial journey. Strap in, because we’re diving deep into the evolution of my business and the invaluable lesson that how you start is not necessarily how you’re going to finish.
How I Started
When I embarked on this journey, I found myself knee-deep in biographies and resumes. People loved my writing, and the demand for my skills led me to tackle business plans, even though, in all honesty, I was in uncharted territory. As a PR firm, I ended up doing more resumes and bios than I initially anticipated.
The Turning Point
The turning point came when I delved into PR and communications, working with a non-profit organization. Coordinating media, handling newsletters, and managing events became my forte. But soon, the winds of change blew in, and branding entered the scene. Clients wanted more than just PR; they craved brand establishment, logos, and websites.
Entering the Digital Age
Fast forward to the present, and here I am, navigating the digital age. My company has undergone multiple transformations, and I find myself reimagining my business plan for the third time. We’re shifting towards digital solutions, rebranding ourselves as a digital PR and communications powerhouse.
Our new slogan, “rethink PR,” encapsulates our commitment to reshaping PR in the context of today’s technology-driven landscape. It’s about maintaining the essence of relationship building while adapting to the ever-changing digital realm.
Charging Forward
But the journey doesn’t stop there. The recent realization hit me hard—I want to build a larger firm, create jobs, and provide opportunities, especially for students fresh out of school. This vision, though exciting, brings its own set of challenges, mainly centered around financial concerns.
I’ve been wrestling with my numbers, revising and reworking them to align with the grander vision. The daunting task of envisioning the transition from where I am now to where I want to be is a mental hurdle I’m navigating. Money, a necessary evil in business, becomes a vital factor when envisioning elaborate campaigns and productions.
The Desire for More
A significant shift occurred in my perspective. Initially content with a comfortable six-figure income, I now see the potential to create impactful campaigns that require substantial budgets. The desire to communicate powerful messages through wondrous productions propels me into the realm of larger firms.
This newfound ambition, however, comes with its share of fears and uncertainties. Can I charge a substantial amount for my services? Can I attract higher-tier clients willing to invest in elaborate productions? These questions echo through my mind as I grapple with the prospect of stepping into a new realm.
To My Fellow Entrepreneurs
To my fellow entrepreneurs, especially those just starting their journey, I share this crucial piece of advice: embrace change. Your business will evolve, and your passions and desires may shift. Don’t be afraid to pivot, adapt, and reimagine your path.
Change is a constant companion on the entrepreneurial journey. It’s okay if your initial vision morphs into something different. The market’s needs, your skills, and your passions might align in unexpected ways. Embrace the evolution, and remember, success is a journey, not an overnight achievement.
As I continue to forge ahead, facing fears and uncertainties, I encourage you to do the same. Embrace your destiny, trust the journey, and never shy away from change. Share your thoughts below, and let’s embark on this ever-evolving entrepreneurial adventure together!
