On March 16, 2019, over 150 women gathered together in the Globe & Mail Center to uplift and empower eachother in celebration of International Women’s History Month at the Ryerson Women in Leadership ‘Power Moves’ conference.
I was recommended to be a speaker by How She Hustles, Emily Mills (thanks Em!) and I was immediately excited by the prospect of educating the next generation, especially since I am a Ryerson alumni.
I’ll admit, I had not spoken in front of a crowd in a while, but once I got up there I felt that old thang coming back. The audience welcomed me with open arms and the rest was a breeze.

Some of the other awesome speakers that I got to hear were Professor Maja, author, sociologist and confidence builder; Ritu Bhasin, also an author and Diversity, Empowerment & Leadership Speaker; and lifestyle blogger Valeria Lipovetsky.
One of the event highlights was a panel discussion moderated by CP24 Reporter, Kayla-Marie Williams and the panelists included: Chioma Ifeanyi-Okoro, Growth Consultant and Founder of My African Corner; Heather Geluk, climber, adventurer and PWC Consultant; Rebecca Shaw, Digital Marketing Lead at Microsoft; Stephanie Okola, CEO and Lawyer at Okola Law; Michelle Slater, Head of Business Marketing at Twitter.
The opening keynote was delivered by podcast host, Farrah Khan. Laura Reinholz, Director of BMO for Women gave the closing keynote and making a special appearance was Scarborough-Guildwood MPP, Mitzie Hunter and the founder of Networkify, Nimra Alam.
