When it comes to confidence and self-esteem, it’s all about your attitude and seeing things from a new perspective.
Last night I went to see I Feel Pretty with Amy Schumer and it definitely had me ROTFL, but what stood out for me is the overall message of letting your confidence flow, with complete ignorance to the world’s idea of what beauty and sexiness looks like.
Synopsis & Trailer
A woman struggling with insecurity wakes from a fall believing she is the most beautiful and capable woman on the planet. Her new confidence empowers her to live fearlessly but another serious bump on the noggin brings her back to reality and by the end of the movie she realizes she was the same woman she had always been.
The Beauty of Vulnerability
At the end of the movie, Amy reminded us of how we didn’t care about how we looked when we were children and how we just let everything hang out and it’s that level of confidence wrapped in innocence that we see played through Amy’s character, Renee.
This movie held a lot of relevance for me. I too, like most women, struggle with issues of confidence and insecurity and self-esteem. What I have learned is that it’s an inside-out job. We look at what we have on the outside and tell ourselves we’re not good enough, but the essence of who we are is in our heart. Who we are, says more about us than what we look like and it shows and everyone sees it.
You ever have a day when you are feeling ‘frumpy’ but then you walk down the street and guys can’t take their eyes off of you or your friends tell you how great you look? That’s because when you are at your most vulnerable, the beauty in you shines through and it shines brighter than any ‘frumpyness’ you might think you have going on.
So what’s the lesson?
- If you live with little to no confidence, low self-esteem or insecurities, go see this movie.
- You are more than what you look like.
- Change your mind, change your life.
- Attitude is everything.
